Choosing the right mattress can be a daunting task. Whether you are getting the mattress for yourself or sharing the mattress with a partner, create a list of factors to consider such as the type of mattress, mattress size, your sleeping posture and body build, budget, and so on before you begin your mattress search.
Sleep specialists and industry insiders generally agree that latex mattresses provide the best balance of incredible comfort and dependable support, at reasonable prices. But don’t just take our word for it, locate your closest Sofzsleep showroom here and feel the difference a high-quality latex mattress can make to your life.
The best mattress for back pain is on that offers adequate support and promotes even spinal alignment. Whether you are getting the mattress for yourself or sharing the mattress with a partner, create a list of factors to consider such as the type of mattress, mattress size, your sleeping posture and body build, budget, and so on before you begin your mattress search.
Sleep specialists and industry insiders generally agree that latex mattresses provide the best balance of incredible comfort and dependable support, without feeling excessively hard. It contours and molds to the shape of the sleeper’s body while reducing pressure exerting points, allowing the spine to really rest and rejuvenate during the night.
For those who sleep on their back, spine alignment is one of the most important factors to consider when choosing mattress. Back sleepers often experience lower back soreness when waking up in the morning as the back is not well-supported. Hence, back sleepers should get a firm mattress that does not interfere with weight distribution or cause excessive motion transfer. This will ensure that the spine does not sink into the mattress.
Mattresses such as Delight, Slick, or Grand help to maintain a natural neck-to-spine alignment, ensuring optimal lumbar support.
Or if can’t decide between a firm, medium or plush mattress, our Trilogy latex mattress is your perfect choice. The innovative Trilogy mattress contains three interchangeable layers which you can swap around at any time – so you can sleep on a soft and cushioned mattress when your back is feeling great, and switch it up to something firmer when your body needs the added support.
.
Side sleepers typically find comfort in a mattress with soft to medium-level firmness. This is because they put heavy pressure on their shoulders and hips closest to the mattress. A firm mattress would not allow a side sleeper’s shoulders and hips to sink in, causing high tension on these pressure points.
On the other hand, a mattress with soft or medium-level firmness would provide more contact between the side of the body and the mattress, relieving uncomfortable pressure on the shoulders and hips.
Mattresses such as Delight, Slick or Trilogy would provide the best support to relieve pressure points on your shoulder and hips.
Spine surgeon Raymond J. Hah, MD suggests that sleeping on your stomach puts the most pressure on your spine’s joints and muscles as it flattens the natural curvature of your spine. Hence, it would be more important for stomach sleepers to find the right mattress that supports a healthy spine posture.
It is recommended for stomach sleepers to get a medium to firm-level mattress. If your mattress is too soft, your torso may sink into misalignment and cause your spine to arch unnaturally.
Mattress such as Delight, Slick, Trilogy or Grand keeps your spine in proper alignment, ensuring you stay pain-free while laying on your stomach.
Sofzsleep latex mattresses work great on any flat, sturdy foundation. Whether you put it on a flat platform, slats, box foundation, adjustable bed, to be compressed into a wall bed or simply to be laid on the floor, our mattresses will always give you the best sleep support and comfort. It is good to note however, that the recommended gap between bed slats should not more than 3” (7.62cm). In case the gaps are too wide, consider putting a thin plywood over the slats to protect your mattress.
Absolutely. We can tailor make mattresses to your required size and thickness, your firmness preferences and even mattresses with rounded edges or odd shapes.

It is human nature to resist any change. Despite loving your new mattress in the store, you might not sleep better on it on the first night at home. It usually takes a couple of days for your body to adjust on a new sleeping surface. This is particularly so when you switch up from a conventional spring mattress to a latex mattress for the first time. It is also good to note that your initial experience with a latex mattress is likely to be “softer” in comparison to conventional mattresses.
Sofzsleep uses only pure latex in our mattress. It is like sleeping on millions of interconnected “micro springs” that provide exceptional, contouring support and pressure relieving comfort. Sleeping on a Sofzsleep bedding will leave you feeling rejuvenated.
The latex core does not contain any other parts (metal springs, synthetic foam, or other inserts). There is no risk of getting irradiated from the metallic springs. Our customers can easily unzip our very special removable Bamboo and Coolmax® covers to appreciate the premium quality latex used in our mattresses.

There is a visual trend among many manufacturers to produce “fatter” or thicker mattresses to appear plusher and more impressive.
The appearance of a thick mattress may appear impressive but can be deceiving in terms of providing actual comfort and support. It is not unusual for mattress manufacturers to make their mattresses look extra plush by adding layers of oddball substances such as polyurethane foam, horse hair and even coconut husk. Thickness is often just a visual ploy designed to get people to think they’re buying a luxurious mattress when it could very well be questionable materials wrapped in a pretty quilted pattern. The rationale for sleeping on these anomalous materials for as long as 5 to 10 years is highly questionable.
It is best to listen to your body and find the bed experience that feels the most comfortable. For an average person with weight between 60-80kg, a 20-24cm mattress should have achieved above average for overall satisfaction. Latex mattresses are generally heavier. Latex mattress is best known for its optimal support and comfort. More importantly, safety-certified latex products do not contain harmful substances, produce toxic emissions and can last for many years.
A free size sock or T-shirt may or may not fit you well but okay. However, when it comes to mattress – certainly one size (model) does NOT fit all as the best mattress for you will depend on many factors such as your weight, sleeping posture & comfort level, mattress firmness, budget etc. Hence, a mattress purchase is a very personalize decision. For that reason, Sofzsleep offers a variety of mattress models of different feels from soft to extra-firm to ensure that you get an uncompromised comfort while enjoying superior alignment and back support!
With Sofzsleep’s innovative his/her mattresses that come with two firmness levels, both you and your partner can enjoy sleeping on a mattress that’s perfectly suited to your preferences – while also enjoying each other’s company. With different firmness level to choose from, we can customize a mattress that fits both of you, so that you don’t have to compromise on your comfort preference.
Sleep is an important part of growing up, as it has a direct impact on your child’s physical and mental growth. For children, poor sleep quality doesn’t just result in tired daytimes – it can lead to developmental issues.
That’s why a good children’s mattress, can be one of your best investments. Evaluate factors such as the firmness, pressure relief, moisture regulating, anti-dust mite and hypoallergenic properties of the mattress. For growing children and kids, we recommend the following natural latex mattresses:
Moonlight latex mattress: Perfect for Bunk and Pull-Out Beds.
Slick latex mattress: Provides Excellent Support for Growing Children
Starlight latex mattress: Two Firmness in One Mattress
Latex is primarily anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and excellent at body heat management. It is ideal for babies and children due to its natural hypo allergenicity, dust mite resistance, and antimicrobial properties which inhibit the growth of bacteria, mould and mildew which are contributors to asthma and pulmonary function allergies. If the mattress is made with a natural, breathable mattress cover like the Bamboo and Coolmax covers used in Sofzsleep mattresses, it contributes to an even cooler sleep.
Many people will be tempted to go for something plush and soft that’s nice to snuggle into but when it comes to mattress, it is better to choose something firmer. The firmness level of support needed largely depends on your child’s weight. It is critical for a growing child to have an optimal spinal support as they sleep for their bone development.
If you’re not sure, Sofzsleep mattress is a good guide. Our children mattresses range from medium-firm to firm, providing a good balance between comfort and spinal support and work very well for most children.
The perfect size is one that fits your room size. It also depends on how long you plan to let your child sleep in the cot; the bigger the size the longer the child can sleep in it. At Sofzsleep, our baby cot mattress comes in the following sizes:
120 x 60 cm
130 x 70 cm
140 x 70 cm
You may also choose to customize the cot mattress size to fit the cot you have purchased. Enquire about customization of mattresses here.
The recommended age for children to start sleeping on a bed and mattress, typically ranges from 12 to 36 months. However, every child grows at a different rate, so consider your child’s size to determine if it’s time to move out of the cot, and onto a comfortable children’s mattress.
A mattress topper is a thin layer, usually five-to-ten centimeters that sits on top of a mattress for extra comfort and cushioning.
This depends on many factors, such as the reason for getting a topper, your budget, the condition of your existing mattress etc. For example, if your existing mattress is quite new but too hard, it makes sense to get a topper to enhance the sleeping comfort rather than changing the mattress. However, if your mattress is more than 7 years old and is sagging, getting a new topper is not going to help. In this case, it may be better to invest in a new mattress.
Yes, a mattress topper can help to soften a hard mattress and improves the comfort and quality of your sleep. Selecting one that is made from the right materials is the next important decision. Latex mattress toppers are breathable, cooling, hypoallergenic and durable. They offer an alternative to changing your whole mattress at a fraction of a mattress cost.
Yes, a latex mattress topper will most certainly relieve pressure points and improve the comfort and quality of your sleep as compared to sleeping on a stone-hard mattress. Latex mattress toppers are durable and highly breathable, keeping you fresh and cool night after night.
Latex is naturally hypoallergenic, dust mite resistant and antimicrobial, inhibiting the growth of bacteria, mould and mildew which are contributors to asthma and pulmonary function allergies. As latex is elastic and flexible, it provides the best balance of incredible comfort and dependable support, without feeling excessively hard, allowing the spine to really rest and rejuvenate during the night. A latex mattress also ensures excellent ventilation, so that surplus moisture is easily discharged.
Sofzsleep latex mattresses are breathable and cool. The porous and open cell structure of latex provides good ventilation and promotes temperature regulation, making sure you remain cool and comfortable in your sleep. Our latex is naturally hypoallergenic and resist all sorts of allergens, like dust mites or pet dander, which can irritate the skin. If the mattress is finished with a natural, breathable mattress cover like the Bamboo and Coolmax covers used in Sofzsleep mattresses, it contributes to an even cooler sleep.
Upon arrival, the raw rubber sap is mixed into a compound. Compressed air is added to the compound to work it into a foam. The desired mold is filled with the latex foam by robotic automation to obtain an even distribution of the latex in the mold. The mold closes and enters a vulcanization oven. The form is then “baked” at 100 degrees centigrade to solidify into our Core. The finished Core is thoroughly washed to remove any residue and rigorously dried to remove all moisture. Consistency, firmness, visual and weight inspections ensue in our quality control process. Approved products are sent to our Asian assembly plant for cutting and finishing to various sizes.
We believe so, as the technology, safety and quality standards applied in different countries for making latex products differs.
To our knowledge, some producers pour latex manually into the metal moulds. Depending on how much is being poured into the moulds, the firmness and thickness may be inconsistent. Also, it is common for manufacturers in Asia to add fillers such as chalk or calcium into their latex production in order use less latex to reduce their cost. Fillers deteriorates the quality of the latex as it accelerates the ageing process which may result in the mattress sagging after 3 to 5 years. Several manufacturers do not wash the latex cores to reduce costs, whereas Sofzsleep mattresses manufactured in Belgium are washed and pressed several times to wash away soap, ammonia, latex proteins, and any residues from the final latex.
This explains why Sofzsleep insists on getting our latex only from our principal supplier in Belgium, who guarantees that no fillers are added in the making of our latex mattresses and pillows. There is a long washing line to wash and press thoroughly the latex products to remove any residues. Sofzsleep latex are Oekotex Standard 100, Eurolatex Eco Standard, LGA and Intertek certified. These certifications test the latex core to be safe. It attests that the latex and the additives contain zero harmful materials for the health of humans and the environment.
During the production process, soap, vulcanization agents and antioxidants are added to turn the liquid latex sap into a solid state. The washing process is thus important to remove these residues after they have completed their tasks and are no longer necessary or desired. If the latex is not washed, allergy causing proteins could still be present and there could be a rubbery odour present. The quality of the latex may also be compromised, reducing the durability of the latex. However, it is not advisable to wash the latex at home as proper machinery is required to dry the latex completely.
Our products are rigorously benchmarked internationally, assuring you bedding products of the highest standards.
Sofzsleep latex components and mattress fabric are Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certified with annual renewal. This safety certification ensures that no harmful substances and VOCs are present in the products and that they are safe even for babies.
Our products also certified biennially and conform to the EuroLatex Eco Standard, developed by the European Latex Foam Manufacturers association in close co-operation with one of Europe’s leading and most reputable scientific institutes, i.e. TFI (Deutsches Teppich-Forschungs Institut in Aachen, Germany). The ECO-Standard defines the maximum acceptable limits of substances considered harmful to health that could occur in latex foam cores. This is based upon scientific data and stringent limits from other standards. The substances that are tested for include:
• Heavy metals
• Nitrosamines
• Pesticides
• Solvents
• Volatile organic components
Sofzsleep products have also been awarded the LGA (Landesgewerbeanstalt Bayern), thus ensuring that our mattresses excel in both durability and elasticity and comply with the durability criteria for the award of the Ecolabel according to the European guideline (2002/740/EC). For more information on our awards and certifications, please visit our Certifications page.
Sofzsleep products have been shown to have an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal action, based on the tests performed by the Centexbel, the scientific and technical research centre of the Belgian textile industry – Report 8375/8276.
Sofzsleep latex pillow and Bamboo cover have also been tested by Intertek, a global renowned laboratory. They were certified to be free from formaldehyde, organic tin, azo dyes, Nonylphenol (NP) and Nonylphenol Ethoxylates (NPEO) – CNS15290.
Food can be fully organic. But with a latex mattress it is impossible. Organic certifications could be awarded to the rubber tree or liquid latex and may include fair trade and labor practices and the environmental impact of the manufacturing processes. However, organic certification does not test the finished product, the latex in its solid form, for harmful substances or VOC’s.
To make liquid latex into a solid form, sulphur and zinc oxide needs to be added. Also, the washing and heating process is extremely important to ensure that the latex proteins are washed out during the process.
All Sofzsleep latex is Oekotex Standard 100, Eurolatex Eco Standard, LGA and Intertek certified. These certifications test the latex core to be safe. It attests that the latex and the additives contain zero harmful materials for the health of humans and the environment.
Latex allergy cases often occur when the latex is in its liquid state or in direct contact with the latex itself such as latex gloves. A latex mattress is fully vulcanized (baked into solid) so the chance of getting an allergic reaction is extremely low. Also, the mattress/ pillow is normally used with a cover, hence there is no direct contact with the latex which reduces the possibility of any allergic reaction. Do consult a doctor if you are unsure.
‘Talalay’ and ‘Dunlop’ are the names of the two main manufacturing processes used to create latex foam from a liquid sap to a solid state.
Dunlop latex tends to be denser, producing a slightly firmer and springier experience as opposed to the softer and bouncier Talalay latex. For this reason, most mattress manufacturers use Dunlop latex to make mattresses while Talalay latex is reserved for top comfort layers. Price wise, Talalay latex tends to cost more than Dunlop latex as Talalay process has a couple more steps compared to Dunlop process and consumes more energy.
As with all things new, mattresses that are newly unwrapped may have a specific intrinsic smell. Simply allow it time to breathe and air out. Typically, the new mattress smell will dissipate within a few hours to a few days. You can also unzip the mattress cover, air it in a well-ventilated room by opening the windows. A dap of your favorite essential oil onto the new mattress may help to personalize the smell the way you love it.
Latex foam ages just as we do; Heat and UV light cause the latex to turn yellow, which is normal. If you want your latex mattress or pillows to last longer, keep them away from direct sunlight. Use a mattress or pillow protector which is excellent at keeping dirt and dust away and serves as a protective barrier against spills and stains.
Latex is a natural, renewable material derived from hevea brasiliensis, also known as rubber trees. Since the trees are not cut down during harvesting, they continue to grow, live, and absorb tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Latex mattresses are durable and can last from 10 to 25 years, while most other mattresses last between 5 to 7 years. This means less mattresses are discarded, and less waste goes into the incineration plant and landfill. We adopt the directive of European Commission 2009/598/EC, which determines that even after 10 years of use, the loss of mattress height should be less than 15% and the loss of firmness less than 20%. Our latex mattresses, made in Belgium, are built to last more than the 10-year warranty period, so by getting a Sofzsleep, you too play a part in reducing our environmental footprint.
While you are shopping for mattresses, you will see many brands who use Bamboo fabric for their mattress cover. Are all Bamboo fabric the same? The answer is an absolute no! Many fabric suppliers who use only 1 to 3% of Bamboo with the remaining 97 to 99% will claim that theirs is a Bamboo fabric. So, how can you tell the difference? It is actually quite hard for a layman but if you were to hold the fabric in your hand, the one with a higher content of Bamboo will weigh heavier than the one with only 3%. Also, a fabric with a high content of Bamboo feels much cooler to your touch than one which has a miniscule Bamboo content.
Sofzsleep’s Bamboo fabric is made with 43% bamboo, 57% polyester.
COOLMAX® fabric was originally designed with permanent moisture-wicking performance to improve breathability for clothing e.g Dri fit shirts. It was subsequently used in other materials such as bedding, footwear and underwear. COOLMAX® dries 5 times faster than cotton. COOLMAX® technology transports moisture away from your skin to the surface of the fabric where it evaporates quickly to help keep you cool, dry and comfortable.
Majority of the mattresses are sold with a fixed cover. Hence, when your mattress is stained, you cannot remove the cover to wash it.
For Sofzsleep mattresses, you can remove the mattress cover for regular cleaning. To give your mattress a new life, you can also replace it with a new cover. Just drop us an email at hello@sofzsleep.com and our friendly customer service colleague will be happy to assist you.
Besides having a right mattress to provide adequate cushioning and support to ensure even spinal alignment, a good pillow is just as important. Without the right pillow, you can suffer from neck and back pain. All of us have different sleeping positions and preferences, hence there is no one-size-fits all perfect pillow. Select from our pillow menu (Design, Arc, Contour and Classic) in different firmness, sizes and height to find the ideal pillow for you.
Side sleepers generally need thicker pillows to fill the space beneath their head and neck. Hence, you can consider Design, Arc or Contour.
Back sleepers are recommended to get a softer or thinner pillow so that there is less stress on their necks. Consider Sofzsleep Design or Classic pillow.
Finally for stomach or front sleepers (those who sleep on their bellies), they should choose a flat pillow. Sofzsleep Classic pillow is the perfect choice in this case.
It really depends on the size of the child. A small and thin pillow that supports the neck is ideal for children. On the other hand, if your child is already 7 years old and has broad shoulders, you can consider a thin adult pillow which allows more room for his/ her head to turn.
Sofzsleep Junior M pillow is recommended for children aged 4 years and above. Sofzsleep Classic pillow which has a thin profile can also be considered for older and bigger children.
Sofzsleep latex pillows are very durable and can easily last for 5 years or more if they are properly maintained. However, for hygiene reasons, we strongly suggest changing your pillow every 2 -3 years. Hair and body oils seep into the pillow and cover every time you use them. This makes it a breeding ground for odour-causing bacteria and dust mites.
For a side sleeper, it is important that your mattress is soft enough so that your shoulder and buttock can sink in to maintain a proper spinal alignment when sleeping. If the mattress is too firm and does not allow the shoulder to sink in, side sleepers especially those with broad shoulders, may find their pillow not thick enough to support this awkward neck position. If you are having such a situation, consider opting for a softer mattress or getting a soft topper to enhance the firm mattress.
If you want your mattress to last longer, the following pointers may help.
- Put the mattress on a new or supportive mattress base.
An old foundation unit may not provide sufficient support. - Use a mattress protector
Mattress protectors are excellent at keeping dirt and dust away from your mattresses and serve as a protective barrier against spills and stains. A clean and hygienic mattress will last longer. - Wash your bed linens regularly. When you sleep, hair, body oil, sweat and skin cells seep into mattress – this makes it a breeding ground for odour-causing bacteria and dust mites. Hence it is best to wash them at least on alternative weeks to keep your sleep surface clean and free from any irritants. Do make sure that your sheets are completely dry before replacing them on your bed to prevent any mould or bacterial growth.
- Ventilate your bedroom regularly to reduce humidity build up on the mattress.
- Refrain from exposing your latex mattress directly to sunlight or UV rays as these can damage the latex over time.
- Carton and protect your mattress when moving.
- Replace your mattress cover to give your mattress a new life.
Keep the pillow clean with an additional pillow case. Washing of pillow is not recommended. If you really need to wash your pillow, please follow these instructions: Do not use any detergent or bleach.
Spot cleaning with water and press between towels to remove water. Hair dryer can be used to dry the pillow further. Do not spin or tumble dry. Do not expose latex to direct sunlight.
Sofzsleep pillows are covered with a removable bamboo cover that can be dry cleaned. If there is a stain on the latex, simply spot clean the stain with a damp cloth and mild detergent. You can remove moisture by pressing the latex with clean towels on both sides, then air the pillow to dry.
Washing and soaking of latex mattress/ pillow is not recommended as you risk damaging the latex foam. If there is a stain, remove the removable cover for cleaning. Spot cleaning with a damp cloth is recommended. You can remove moisture by pressing the latex with clean towels on both sides. Do not spin or tumble dry. Do not expose latex to direct sunlight.
Avoid direct exposure to sunlight, as the UV rays will damage the latex and cause it to oxidize and break down. It is advisable to use a mattress/ pillow protector to extend the usage life of it.
Rotating or flipping your latex mattress regularly, like once every six months, ensures even use on all areas of the mattress and reduces wear and tear on any area. This may prolong the usage life of your mattress.
Some latex mattress models such as Sofzsleep Trilogy, Grand and Delight may contain interchangeable latex layers. These mattress models allow one to adjust the firmness of the mattress by re-arranging the sequence of the layers. They can also be swapped around to extend the usage life of your mattress.
Washing and soaking of latex mattress is not recommended as you risk damaging the latex foam. If the mattress is soiled, remove the removable cover for cleaning. Spot cleaning with a damp cloth is recommended. However, if you are still uncomfortable with the pee in the mattress, you can pour a tiny bit of water over the area peed on. As latex is highly porous and with the perforations in the latex mattress, the water will drain off easily. You can remove moisture by pressing the latex with clean towels on both sides. Do not spin or tumble dry. Do not expose latex to direct sunlight.

This warranty is strictly under the condition that the mattress is properly covered with fabrics, kept in a cool and dry conditions without exposure to direct sunlight.
Damage caused by use on a foundation that is uneven or a failing bed base is not covered by this warranty. A foundation that is too hard, too soft, not supportive, or restricts air circulation may damage your mattress and void this warranty. Correct mattress support is an important element in providing long life for mattress.
The warranty does not cover any mattress that is stained, soiled, or infested with vermin, dust mites or bed bugs.
Warranty becomes void if repairs were done by 3rd parties.
Transportation, inspection, or removal costs of product are not included in the warranty.
Proof of original purchase must be verified with a sales receipt/ invoice. This is needed to determine original date of purchase. Customer should contact Sofzsleep through email with detailed address information, with attached images of receipt/invoice for us to ascertain the validity of claim.
For hygiene reasons, we do not accept any returns once a mattress has been opened. Because of this policy, you can be assured that all mattresses delivered to you are 100 % brand new and not repacked from returned mattresses.
