Choosing the Ideal Bed Sheets for Snoozing (and Other Bedtime Activities)

Just like buying the perfect mattress, choosing bed sheets is a process that requires some thought as well. And if you’re wondering what else there is to consider besides, “which colour do I like the best?”, then you’re at the right place.

Your ideal bedsheets should be comfortable, long-lasting and of course, put you in a good mood! But with so many choices out there, how can you select bed sheets that are great for you? These are some suggestions that can help you out.

Lyocell, linen, cotton, microfibre… what’s what?

Spend 10 minutes looking at bed sheets and you’ll find that they come in a variety of (potentially confusing) materials. This is an important part of your bed sheet selection process, so be sure you know the differences!

<<< Lyocell: These sheets are silky soft, incredibly cool and wonderfully comfortable. And if you’re choosing Lyocell sheets from Weavve, you’ll be glad to know that these high-quality sheets are made using 100% Lenzing TENCELTM lyocell fibre.

>>> Linen : A popular choice among Singaporeans, thanks to its breathability, temperature-regulating features, and ability to absorb moisture. All these make linen especially ideal for our warm and humid weather.

Cotton (above): The most common material for bed sheets, cotton sheets are soft, comfortable and durable. They also tend to be reasonably priced (except for some premium selections, like Egyptian cotton) and are fairly breathable, making them “safe” purchases for many people.

Microfibre: Microfibre sheets are also soft, comfortable and affordable – although they’re less breathable than some of these other materials, so less ideal for people who tend to sweat at night or have sensitive skin.

Know your thread count

Generally speaking, sheets with higher thread counts are considered to be of higher quality. They also last longer and are more comfortable, which accounts for their slightly higher pricing. If you want your investment to last, look for sheets with higher thread counts (like 300 to 400).

With that said, a bed sheet’s thread count isn’t the only indicator of its quality, the weave and finish matter as well – so take these factors into consideration as a whole.

What’s your colour theme?

When choosing the colour of your bed sheets, it’s important to consider the overall look of your bedroom – and avoid the common mistake of purchasing sheets simply because they’re available in a hue that you like.

Before making your purchase, think about the colour concept of your room – is it pastel, pop, cool, Mediterranean (or something else)? For example, grey bedsheets look great in their packaging and are fantastic in rooms with cool or industrial-type concepts. But if your home is pastel or pop-coloured, it’ll be better to choose a complementary pastel/pop colour to keep your home looking bright and vibrant.

For kids’ rooms, we recommend children’s prints – preferably of characters, animals, colours or designs that your kids love. These sheets will make bedtime stories (and bedtime in general) a lot more fun!
